Blue Creek is a quiet country retreat where visitors can walk a looped trail through a wetland and around a quarry pond, fish, kayak, sled or have a family gathering. On Providence Road, behind the Whitehouse village offices, the former Nona France quarry offers kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and fishing from shore or small boats. Kayaks can be rented using a smartphone app. In winter, head for the hill. Blue Creek has the largest sledding hill in the park system.

Recreation meets restoration a scenic Spot along the Wabash Cannonball Trail. Once home to a 1,000 acres farm, almost 100 acres of this land is being restored to a rich habitat for birds, frogs and turtles. For people, a bicycle, kayak or tent is the best way to truly experience this Metropark beside the region's longest trail. The park has planted prairies, a pond for boating, three campsites secluded in the woods, walking paths and a connection to the Wabash Cannonball Trail, which runs through the park.

Oak Openings features more than 70 miles of trail in the preserve, including a network of horse trails that attract riders from around the state, a dedicated cross-country ski trail and a popular singletrack (mountain bike trail).

Located between Whitehouse and Swanton, Oak Openings Preserve takes its name from the surrounding region, which is 23 times larger than the park itself. Still, at 5,000 acres, Oak Openings Preserve is the largest of the Metroparks -- by far.

Oak Openings is home to the nation's only public treehouse village, two campgrounds and two cabins where families can immerse themselves in nature.

Oak Openings is a birder's paradise. It is the nesting place of bluebirds, indigo buntings, whippoorwills, lark sparrows and many other species, as well as an excellent location to see migrating warblers in the spring.

Stands of isolated pine and spruce planted decades ago are still visible, though many are nearing the end of their life. While not natural to the region, the spectacle of thousands of pines planted in straight rows create an irresistible scene for photographers.

Twin Acres is a family campground owned and operated by the Gater/Jacobs family since 1969. Whether you are looking to tent camp for the weekend, or stay the whole season, We welcome you to our friendly, clean, and safe campground, because we are “family camping at it’s best!”
