Join NMGL beginning July 1 through September 4 for Two Men and a Boat: From Lake Erie to Puget Sound, a temporary exhibit at the National Museum of the Great Lakes.
A grueling journey over seventy miles in 48 hours within a self-built, human-powered vessel—this was the challenge Henry Billingsley and Ed Neal took on after their paths collided through their love of boats. As a student at Columbia University, Henry fell in love with boating through the sport of rowing. Ed had a lifelong passion for woodworking. Together, alongside the shores of Lake Erie, the stage was set for a partnership fueled by fierce competition and built by powerful design—a collaboration that led to the ultimate test of skills along the Puget Sound. Two Men and a Boat: From Lake Erie to Puget Sound takes a peek into the lives of two men, the incredible boat they built, the extraordinary race they entered, as well as the history and skilled work of small boat building.
