VIRTUAL EVENT
Wednesday, February 3, 2021 | 7 p.m.
Join us for the capstone of our year-long exhibit “Port of Toledo: Then and Now” with a round table featuring experts and historians from the Toledo area.
Although the multi-part exhibit has touched on almost all aspects of life on the Maumee River, this lecture will specifically highlight three topics including:
1) The use of the Maumee for recreation and fishing over the years along with how the new Glass City Metropark will encourage further use, featuring the former Eastern Michigan Director of Historic Preservation Ted Ligibel and Shannon Hughes from Metroparks Toledo.
2) Maumee River shipbuilding and cargos from the early days of wooden schooners to the new Cleveland Cliffs iron plant, featuring East Toledo historian Larry Michaels and Lucas County Port Authority Vice President Joe Cappel.
3) Maumee River navigation and some of the challenges and accidents over the years, featuring local history author holytoledohistory.com curator Tedd Long and President of the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Preservation Society Sandy Bihn.
Register now to be a part of the end of our year-long journey into the Port of Toledo.
This will be a virtual lecture and is free. Donations are always happily accepted: https://nmgl.org/.../spring-lecture-series-2021-port-of.../
