Toledo loves Rachmaninoff…and Olga Kern! Born into a musical family Olga Kern embodies the spirit of Rachmaninoff with her incredible musicality. She was the First Prize winner of the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition at age 17. She was the first woman to win the Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in more than 30 years. Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto is full of poetry, beauty, warmth, and rich orchestrations. Witold Lutoslawski’s Concerto for Orchestra contains stylized Polish folklore in melodic themes where the composer creates new harmonies with added atonal counterpoints.
