The Toledo Lucas County Public Library is happy to welcome Molly Shannon to Toledo!
ABOUT THE BOOK and AUTHOR: Iconic comedian and actress Molly Shannon, who is beloved by generations of comedy fans—from those who remember her six years on SNL, to those who know her from her more than 125 television and movie credits. There are a million laugh-out-loud moments in this book, from stories about her days waitressing in New York City —to the truth behind all of those pratfalls she took as Mary Katherine Gallagher (without padding!). As Molly recounts her early years in showbusiness, her time on SNL, and her rise to stardom, it feels like nothing less than being side-by-side with her at a party— HELLO, MOLLY! is dishy and intimate, filled with boldface names and behind-the-scenes stories involving everyone from Whitney Houston to Adam Sandler and Monica Lewinsky, many told for the first time here.
This candid, compulsively readable, hilarious, and heartbreaking memoir of resilience and redemption, starts with a tragic car accident Molly survived at age four that killed her mother, sister, and cousin, with her father at the wheel. Held together by her tender and complicated relationship with her grieving father, who had secrets of his own, Molly was raised in a permissive household where her gift for improvising and role-playing blossomed alongside the fearlessness that led her to become a celebrated actress. From there, Molly ventured into the wider world of New York and Los Angeles show business, where she created her own opportunities and developed her daring and empathetic comedy. HELLO, MOLLY! spans Molly’s time on Saturday Night Live—where she starred alongside Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Cheri Oteri, Tracy Morgan, and Jimmy Fallon, among many others. At the same time, it explores with humor and candor her struggle to come to terms with the legacy of her father, a man who both fostered her gifts and drive and was left with the impossible task of raising his kids alone after the loss of her mother.
