American Revolution Grand Encampment

Every five years the Northwest Territory Alliance holds a Grand Encampment with hundreds of reenactors recreating authentic military camps and battle tactics of the American Revolution. The NWTA is comprised of individuals from all over the United States and Canada. This year they have chosen Fort Meigs as their Grand Encampment’s location.

The Grand Encampment will be even larger than the NWTA’s yearly encampments at Fort Meigs, which are part of our 60 Years War for Ohio series. The Sixty Years’ War is a term used to describe the 60 years of conflict over the control of the Great Lakes region beginning with the French and Indian War and continuing through the War of 1812. It ended with the Treaty of Ghent creating a permanent boundary between the United States and the British Empire. The American Revolution is an integral piece of the Sixty Years’ War because it left unresolved questions of control in the Old Northwest between the British, Americans, French, and indigenous peoples, leading up to the War of 1812.
