Join Dr. Megan Reddicks Pignataro, Curatorial Research Associate in European Art, for a lively look at more than five centuries of artistic creativity, from the everyday to the fantastical, and everything in between.

Along the way, encounter beloved works by artists such as Peter Paul Rubens and Frans Hals, and linger on TMA favorites like Blind Man’s Buff and Ophelia. In Arthur Hughes’s Ophelia, the tragic heroine of Shakespeare’s Hamlet wanders in a dreamlike haze, gathering flowers that tell her story through their meanings—the willow for sadness, the daisy for innocence, the violet for faithfulness. Her beauty and fate, rendered in luminous color and emotion, embody the timeless pull of European art that continues to resonate today.
