Sensory Friendly Weekends at National Museum of the Great Lakes

The National Museum of the Great Lakes invites guests to experience the museum in a calm, accommodating setting during its Sensory Friendly Weekends, thoughtfully designed for comfort and enjoyment.

Held on the second Saturday and Sunday of every month, this dedicated experience takes place one hour before the museum opens to the public.

Admission is included with regular museum entry and is free for members and Museums for All participants.

Created especially for individuals with sensory sensitivities, this designated time offers a more immersive and comfortable visit:

  • Crowds are limited to ensure a peaceful, relaxed environment
  • Lighting is dimmed to create a calming atmosphere
  • Exhibit sounds are lowered or eliminated to reduce auditory stimulation

As a Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Services (IBCCES), the museum is committed to providing inclusive, accessible experiences for all visitors.

Guests are encouraged to pre-order tickets in advance or purchase them at the door upon arrival. Regular admission rates apply. For questions, please call 419-214-5000.
