Featured Public Courses
Ottawa Park Golf Course – Ottawa Park is one of the oldest public golf courses in the United States, and the foundation of Toledo’s golf story. Opened in 1899, Ottawa Park was designed at a time when golf in America was still finding its footing. Toledo took a different approach early on, creating a public course that welcomed everyone, helping establish the region’s long-standing commitment to accessibility in the game.
The layout is classic and walkable, shaped by natural terrain, mature trees, and smaller greens that reward precision over power. While shorter by modern standards, the course offers a strategic challenge that engages players of all skill levels. Over the years, updates from noted architect Arthur Hills have helped maintain playability while preserving the course’s historic character, making it both a living landmark and an enjoyable everyday round.
Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course – Maumee Bay stands apart from traditional Midwest courses with its wide fairways, native grasses, and ever-present lake winds. Built atop a reclaimed landscape along Lake Erie, this Arthur Hills designed links style course delivers a distinctive coastal feel rarely found in the region.
Water and wetlands come into play throughout the round, while expansive greens and strategic bunkering demand thoughtful shot-making. The open layout allows for multiple playing styles, making it both approachable and rewarding for experienced golfers. Consistently ranked among Ohio’s top public courses, Maumee Bay has become a destination round for players seeking something beyond the typical parkland experience.

Set across more than 200 acres of rolling terrain, the course features bentgrass fairways and greens, multiple tee options, and a layout that balances playability with challenge.
Water plays a defining role here, with five lakes woven throughout the course, including the area’s only island green, one of its most memorable and photographed holes. Consistently recognized for its quality, The Legacy has earned national attention, including a 4.5-star rating from Golf Digest and placement among top public courses to play.

Stretching across more than 170 acres, the course blends natural elevation changes, tree-lined fairways, and well-placed bunkering to create a dynamic round. Longer than many municipal options in the area, Detwiler challenges players with a mix of risk-reward opportunities and demanding approach shots, while still remaining playable thanks to multiple tee options Its balance of design quality and accessibility has made it a favorite among local golfers looking for a step up in difficulty.
