The University Counseling Center will reintroduce itself to campus on Thursday, Sept. 12, with Light Up the Night, an event highlighting the importance of caring for one’s mental health and the range of free mental health and wellness services available to students.

Light Up the Night is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. at Centennial Mall.

Sunset Yoga in Centennial Mall is one of the activities at Thursday’s Light Up the Night event.

“Light up the Night is the biggest mental health party on campus. This event celebrates students building community, coping skills, expression and resources,” said Dr. La Tasha Sullivan, Counseling Center director. “We celebrate students having the power to do more for their mental health and wellbeing.”

In addition to information about mental health resources, there will be food, music and activities, including glow-in-the-dark archery, a car smash and sunset yoga.

Dr. Cassandra Haas, a full-time clinical psychologist at the Counseling Center and this year’s Light up the Night chair, has arranged for the participation of nearly 20 departments and offices across campus, along with several major mental health agencies in the area such as the Lucas County Mental Health Board and the National Alliance on Mental Illness Toledo Chapter.

Light Up the Night is supported by the Student Advocacy Office, Office of Residence Life, the Catherine S. Eberly Center for Women, the Office of Recreational Services, the Office of Student Engagement and the Office of Multicultural Student Success.
