SUMMARY:Authors! with Stefan Merrill Block
DESCRIPTION:Author Talk with Stefan Merrill Block \nStefan Merrill Block joins Authors! to discuss his debut memoir\, Homeschooled. The book chronicles his unconventional upbringing under the guidance of his erratic mother and the shock of reentering society through public high school. This program offers a compelling look at the early days of legalized homeschooling in the United States and is well-suited for readers interested in U.S. history and stories of resilience and self-discovery. \nEvent Details \n\nDoors open at 6:30 p.m.\nTickets required\nLimited book signing with the author after the presentation\n\nTickets \n\nOne ticket includes one copy of Homeschooled\n\nAbout the Book \nBefore homeschooling became a nationwide movement\, and shortly after it was legalized in Texas\, Stefan Merrill Block disappeared from the public school system and into his mother’s increasingly eccentric theories and projects. After five years away from the outside world\, he reentered public school in Plano as a freshman and faced a jarring return to society. \nBoth a portrait of a complicated mother-son relationship and a revealing look at an overlooked chapter in American education\, Homeschooled is a moving\, funny\, and ultimately inspiring story about identity\, independence\, and the cost of unconditional love. \n\nAbout the Author \nStefan Merrill Block grew up in Plano\, Texas. His first novel\, The Story of Forgetting\, was an international bestseller and won multiple literary awards. His work has been translated into ten languages\, and his essays and stories have appeared in The New York Times\, The New Yorker\, The Guardian\, NPR’s Radiolab\, Granta\, The Los Angeles Times\, and more. He now lives in upstate New York.
