Sylvania Homecoming Picnic and Time Capsule Unveiling
Step back in time and connect with Sylvania’s history as a 50-year-old community time capsule is finally revealed.
On July 4, 1976, the Sylvania community celebrated the American Bicentennial by burying a time capsule filled with personal items beneath Burnham Park. Marked by a monument instructing future generations to open it 50 years later, that long-awaited moment has arrived. The City of Sylvania invites the public to Burnham Park on Saturday, July 4 at 10:00 a.m. to witness the official unearthing and unveiling of these contents for the first time in half a century, offering a unique opportunity to view the preserved items and connect with the community’s shared history.
Contribute to the Future: The 2076 Time Capsule
This historic event is not just about looking backward; it is also about preparing for the future. Guests are highly encouraged to bring a small, meaningful item that represents everyday life today to place back into the vault. Once filled, the time capsule will be sealed and buried once again, preserved for future generations to reopen in the year 2076.
With Sylvania alumni expected to travel from as far away as Arizona to attend, this serves as an unforgettable moment for the entire community. Join neighbors, friends, and family to celebrate a shared heritage and create lasting memories for generations to come.
Admission: Free and open to the public
